Description:
The Four Seasons" by Daniel Zepek. The piece overflows with intense energy! A fresh and convincing performanceDaniel Zepek, who showed his overwhelming musicality and ability in Biber's "Rosary Sonata" (COV21008), and the members of the Deutsche Kammerphil, who know each other well, have recorded Vivaldi's most famous work, "The Four Seasons". Daniel Zepek is a violinist of great talent, concertmaster of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and a member of the Alcant Quartet. In this ambitious recording, Zepek thoroughly pursues his own unique approach to this work, of which there are many masterful performances and recordings. Zepek emphasizes the sonnets written in each piece, carefully depicting the scenes described by the solo violin, and telling Zepek's own story. In the coupling "La Follia," Axel Wolff's lute and Maarten van der Valk's percussion are added to create an emotional, lustrous, and frenetic dance. The flexible conception and excellent technique make us hear Vivaldi of the new era. How did you approach "The Four Seasons," of which there are already many recordings? Sonnets have the role of bringing the music to life and creating an image for both the performers and the audience. I had a clear image for each sonnet. For example, the second movement of "Autumn" depicts villagers who were drunk and comfortably asleep after a feast. The ambiguous tones of the strings, harpsichord, lute, and harp, all with soft strings, are essential to the expression of the sleepy villagers. Our approach is based on a free and intuitive sensitivity to sound and melody, informed by experience and knowledge of historical performances. What were your references in describing the seasons? What were your references in expressing the seasons and how did you reflect them in your music? The "Spring" expresses the endless abundance. The solo violin imitates birdsong, and the second tutti represents the "flow of a spring. In "Summer," which represents the fury of nature, the entire music embodies storms, heat, etc., returning again to the calm and happy "Autumn," while "Winter" depicts people freezing in the cold. Each season is vividly represented, allowing each piece to take on its own character." (Daniel Zepek) King International
