Following the Bach Cantatas collection, the Christmas Oratorio by Ristenparte, "the greatest Bach conductor known to man," a rare recording on the bicentennial of Bach's death! Following the German conductor Ristenparte's (1900-1967) Bach cantatas for RIAS (AU 21415), the audite label has revived his Christmas oratorio! This recording was made in 1950, the 200th anniversary of Bach's death, and is of great historical value. Carl Ristenparte spent his youth in Chile and returned to Berlin at the age of 13 to study musicology and composition at Humboldt University and the Stern School of Music. After World War II, in 1946, he founded a chamber orchestra and choir at the request of the RIAS, and shared conducting duties with Fritschaj and the RIAS Symphony Orchestra until 1953.Later, in the 200 years following Bach's death, he conducted major religious music, including 60 cantatas. The orchestra specializes in works by Bach and Mozart, and although the compositions are solid, the musical expression is clear, bright, and full of warmth. This performance also features a full complement of soloists, with the beautiful voices of Agnes Giebel (soprano), Carlotte Wolf-Mataus (alto), Helmut Kreps (tenor), and Walter Hauck (bass).
