With nearly all of his concerts canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Yoichi Tajiri took the stage alone to continue his dialogue with the works of J.S. Bach, creating a work brimming with a truly crystalline atmosphere.\nThe recording took place in July 2020 at the Hyogo Prefectural Cultural Center in the form of a live performance without an audience. While Tajiri maintains that live performances emphasizing improvisation are the very essence of music, this approach remains unchanged in the recording process. Far removed from the typical session recording method—where multiple takes are played and only the best ones are selected—this recording captures a truly once-in-a-lifetime, precious performance.\nWith a serene and unwavering tempo, and a performance that deliberately avoids ornamentation as much as possible—as if returning to the primordial landscape of sound depicted by Bach—this album is a deeply healing gift for those of us living in these unpredictable times.\n\nThe liner notes were written by Tajiri himself and contain a text expressing his thoughts on this CD. The joy of living that gently wells up from this work; the heartfelt smile that comes when touched by human affection; the sense of relief that envelops the entire body when facing the vastness of nature; bittersweet memories and fleeting thoughts; sorrow that brings tears to the eyes; and, above all, devout prayer… There is no end to the process of sensing the profound currents of Bach’s emotions. The new discoveries that arise every time I engage with his music, and the act of expressing them through sound, are for me a fleeting joy.
