This disc features four pieces, including the Oboe Concerto—the world’s first recording on period instruments—and “Sing Loudly to God.” A leading figure among the composers who moved from Bohemia to Germany in the 18th century and played a pivotal role in the Pre-Classical period, Franz Xaver Richter served the Mannheim court as a bass singer, string player, and composer at the Mannheim court. Thanks to his remarkable achievements with the court orchestra, he has gone down in music history as a leading figure of the so-called “Mannheim School.” As a singer himself, Richter’s works are all characterized by beautiful melodies, and the pieces included here are typical examples of his style.
