He was also a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, an ensemble of outstanding young musicians founded by Claudio Abbado. Telemann’s unaccompanied piece was originally composed for the flute. As Willem Weverka himself has stated, “One of a performer’s roles is to take on new challenges,” and he delivers an outstanding performance that showcases his exceptional expressiveness and virtuosity, bringing out the vivid brilliance of this masterpiece.
