The second installment of “Mendelssohn in Birmingham,” a new project featuring Gardner—who is currently at the top of his game—and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, where he serves as Principal Guest Conductor, is already here.

This project unfolds in Birmingham, a British city with deep ties to Mendelssohn. The second installment features a rich program including Symphony No. 1—which reportedly received even more critical acclaim for its London performances than its premiere in Leipzig—Symphony No. 3, composed under the inspiration of a visit to Edinburgh and aptly titled “Scottish,” and the “Louis Brass” Overture—an unfinished work originally composed as an opera based on Victor Hugo’s play “Louis Brass.”
Tokyo M-Plus

Tracklisting:

1.Ouverture to Ruy Blas, Op. 95
2.Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 11: Allegro di molto
3.Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 11: Andante
4.Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 11: Menuetto.
