This new recording with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra—with whom he has maintained a long-standing relationship dating back to his days as a percussionist and where he currently serves as Music Director and Principal Conductor—features a compelling program of orchestral works by three Estonian composers, showcasing Järvi at his very best!\n\nJärvi has consistently earned high praise for his recordings related to Estonia on the Chandos label, including *Estonian Music* (CHAN241-26) and *Orchestral Works of the Kapp Family* (CHAN10441; out of print). This album features four magnificent works composed during the first decade of the 20th century—works that came to symbolize the birth of Estonian music following the Republic of Estonia’s independence from the Russian Empire—along with two pieces composed toward the end of World War II and immediately after the war. Artur Kapp, Mihkel Rüdig, and Artur Lemba all studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory; while rooted in the Russian Nationalist School, their works embody their homeland’s national identity through the use of traditional Estonian melodies. Furthermore, Kap’s “Symphony No. 4,” the final piece on the album, was written in 1948 following the Soviet occupation.
