Although these two works are now overshadowed by Beethoven’s “Eroica” and “Symphony No. 4,” composed around the same time, they demonstrate a masterful use of the woodwind section and superb orchestration throughout, making them worthy of being called masterpieces of early German Romantic symphonic music that were ahead of their time.
