Den Berken, who has demonstrated her excellent musicianship in her previous Handel and Mozart albums, also plays with extreme freedom and spontaneity in this Scarlatti. Originally written as practice pieces, these sonatas are all short pieces of two to three minutes in length, but the artist vividly shows how much surprise and variety is contained in these pieces. Sometimes romantic, sometimes energetic, the album is filled with plenty of her inspiration. You will be drawn into her world as soon as you start listening to it. The cover design by art director Stefan Rismus is based on a scientific analysis of the Sonata in D major, K.119, performed by Den Berken at the University of Amsterdam. 88 small circles represent the keys of a piano, and the number and length of each keyboard press was calculated. The artwork reflects the shades of color applied to each key.The dynamism that Scarlatti put into his miniatures is beautifully visualized in this piece. \u003cdaria van den berken\u003e Born in Utrecht, the Netherlands in 1979, Scarlatti entered the class for talented young pianists at the Rotterdam Conservatory in 1990.
