Encouraged to pursue a career as a countertenor by Leonhard, the Kuijken brothers, and Alfred Deller—among others—he was hailed as one of the most renowned singers of Deller’s next generation and has participated in numerous recordings. In the 1970s, he founded his own ensemble, “Concerto Vocale,” and began his career as a conductor. In recent years, he has conducted symphonies and operas by Monteverdi, Haydn, and Mozart.
