While it is well known that the names of the Italian royal family and the painter Raphael are inscribed there, the name of Corelli—the “father of the concerto grosso”—is also recorded there. In fact, while the fame of musicians at that time often faded with their death, in Corelli’s case, it endured for decades after his passing (particularly in England).\n◆The subtitle, “Corelli’s Orbit,” likens the strength of Corelli’s influence to an “orbit,” and it can be interpreted to mean that the Pantheon, where his tomb is located, stands at the center of this orbital movement. Incidentally, the Pantheon in Rome is known to some as a sacred place, partly due to its connection to the “Atomic Bomb Memorial Day” ceremonies held there annually on August 6 and 9.\n\n[Track Listing]\n◆The program centers on Corelli’s famous “Concerti Grandi” and weaves in rare concertos by Castucci, Massitti, and Valentini. It consists of 29 tracks in total, including three world premiere recordings.\n\n[Performers]\n◆Concerto Köln is a German early music ensemble founded in 1985. Based in Cologne, the ensemble operates on a self-managed basis without a conductor and is characterized by its sophisticated programming and bold performances.\n◆ Evgeny Sviridov is a Russian Baroque violinist who has served as concertmaster of Concerto Köln since 2015. He leads the ensemble with his exceptional technique and leadership.\n\n[Recording]\n◆Recorded in March 2025 at the Chamber Music Hall of Deutschlandfunk in Cologne.
