In his final years, he devoted himself exclusively to this genre; indeed, his “Dalmatian Mass,” written when he was just 13, has continued to be highly regarded and was even published in a revised edition.
This “Requiem” is the masterpiece that symbolizes Suppé’s identity as a “sacred music composer,” and while there are no shortage of recordings of it, expectations are high for the Philharmonie Festiva, led by Schaller, which is making its debut here—especially since this duo previously made a sensation with their Bruckner series based on the Caragan edition.
The Munich Philharmonic Choir, with whom they are collaborating on this project, is a prestigious ensemble boasting 110 years of history; they also delivered an outstanding performance in the 2009 concert-style production of Goldmark’s *Merlin* (PH09044), conducted by Schaller himself. The singing is in Latin, and the booklet includes the lyrics in Latin, German, and English.
King International

Tracklisting:

1.Requiem in D minor: Requiem aeternam
2.Requiem in D minor: Dies irae
3.Requiem in D minor: Tuba mirum
4.Requiem in D minor: Rex tremendae
5.Requiem in D minor: Recordare
6.Requiem in D minor: Confutatis
7.Requiem in D minor: Lacrimosa
8.Requiem in D minor: Domine Jesu
9.Requiem in D minor: Hostias
10.Requiem in D minor: Sanctus
11.Requiem in D minor: Benedictus
12.Requiem in D minor: Agnus Dei
13.Requiem in D minor: Libera me
