Their previous release, a 2018 debut album featuring recordings of Brahms, received high acclaim.\nThe program features two works by Mendelssohn that serve as important milestones in the history of 19th-century piano trios. The First Trio, which Schumann described as a “masterpiece of our time,” was revised following Ferdinand Hiller’s advice after its premiere, resulting in a piano part with a more three-dimensional and concerto-like energy. Composed later in his career, the No. 2 features a more complex structure and strongly reflects the composer’s spiritual background and the characteristics of his late style, as evidenced by the quotation of a German Protestant chorale melody in the final movement.\nThrough the meticulous ensemble work cultivated over many years by these three musicians—who teach at leading music universities in Korea—this recording sheds light on the finer details of Mendelssohn’s chamber music, which blends Classical structure with Romantic expression.\n\nThe Tonus Trio traces its origins to the Tonus Quartet, which was selected as the representative chamber ensemble of the New England Conservatory in 1996. In 2012, pianist Chu Hee-son joined the group, reorganizing it into its current form as a piano trio. Since then, the group has maintained a stable lineup and continued its activities; their debut album, *Brahms: Piano Trios* (XNCMK9003\/NCMK9003), released in 2018, won the Kabeyama Music Award that same year. From 2018 to 2025, they presented the “Between Classicism and Romanticism” series, performing the complete piano trios of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Schubert. Currently, Yang Koun is a professor at Kyung Hee University, Lee Kang-ho at the Korea National University of Arts, and Choo Hee-son at Seoul National University.\nTokyo M Plus\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"NCM Klassik","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":52776485060897,"sku":"8809594450107","price":2781.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/8809594450107.jpg?v=1779963782","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/8809594450107","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
