Although it was previously released by another label, it had long been out of print, making this a welcome re-release.\nIn this documentary, guitarist Pepe Romero serves as the main narrator, and Rodrigo himself, his wife Victoria, his daughter Cecilia, his son-in-law—violinist Agustín León Ara, as well as his two grandchildren and other family members and close associates from the music world, who discuss Rodrigo’s music and his character. The documentary also features performances by Rodrigo himself, Pepe Romero, and specialists in Rodrigo’s music. Brushing aside his family’s concerns, Rodrigo traveled to Paris to study composition under Paul Dukas. He later met and married Victoria Kamhi. Victoria was also a pianist, but after their marriage, she supported Joaquín’s musical career as his assistant. This footage includes scenes of Victoria reading the newspaper aloud to him every day, telling him about the weather, and visiting palaces to explain their decorations. Early in their marriage, they spent time in France and Germany to avoid the Spanish Civil War, but after returning to Spain in 1939, they settled in Madrid, where Rodrigo continued to compose. Rodrigo’s most famous work, the “Concierto de Aranjuez,” was composed during the crisis of the Spanish Civil War, as he reflected on the fine traditions of his homeland. In the town of Aranjuez, the piece has been adopted as the chime for the town clock, and its accessible melody has captured the hearts of many people.
