This performance is the landmark concert that served as the starting point for that pilgrimage. The recording took place at the Herder Church in Weimar, where Bach’s children were baptized and which is famous for its altarpiece by Cranach.\nGardiner’s lucid interpretation and the choir’s meticulous attention to detail perfectly convey the profound, prayerful nature of the music.
