While Brendel’s brilliance is certainly noteworthy, the real surprise is the “Revolution” conducted by the great Yugoslavian maestro Zdravković—who would have thought we’d ever get to hear this!\nZdravkovic was born in 1914 in Belgrade, the capital of the Kingdom of Serbia, as the son of a railway worker. He struggled to pursue a career in music, eventually studying in Prague under Talich. After the war, in Marshal Tito’s Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia, he served as chief conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic and president of the Serbian Artists’ Association, becoming one of Yugoslavia’s leading conductors. His recording of Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances with the Belgrade Philharmonic for German EMI (Electrola) is considered his signature recording, and that performance, was personally selected by Akihiro Miwa himself during the production of his \"Black Lizard\" album for Toshiba EMI—specifically for the Slavonic Dances (the main theme of Miwa’s stage production \"Black Lizard\"). This outstanding performance, brimming with dark and rich melodic beauty, was well-known among true connoisseurs.
