Fourteen years after winning the 16th International Chopin Piano Competition in 2010, Julianna Avdeyeva is releasing an album featuring an all-Chopin program! Avdeyeva has previously released an all-Chopin album as a live recording of the competition and as a charity CD for the Great East Japan Earthquake, but this is her first all-Chopin album as a session pianist. This is the first all-Chopin session album, and Avdeeva's outstanding performance takes the listener on a journey through Chopin's music. The album consists of the major piano sonata No. 3, Op. 58, as well as two nocturnes, Op. 62, Polonaise Fantastique, Op. 61, Boat Song, Op. 60, and three mazurkas, Op. 59, all from the latter half of his career. These masterpieces, composed while surrounded by nature, were recorded by Avdeeva at the Tippett Reiss Art Center.The Tippet Rise Art Center, located in the middle of Montana on a vast 41 km2 prairie, is a fusion of nature and art, with huge outdoor sculptures standing in the midst of wilderness. In the silence, with the Beatus Mountains in the background, Avdeeva was confronted with Chopin's music and the recording proceeded. The instrument used was a Steinway CD-18 (\"CD\" stands for \"Concert Department\") once owned by Vladimir Horowitz. It is also known as the instrument on which Eugene Istomin played Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in 1956, recorded with the Philadelphia Orchestra and conducted by Eugene Ormandy.
