Born in 1971 in the Republic of Cyprus, Nikolaou is a Cologne-based composer who studied composition at the Cologne University of Music and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, and in 2006 was a scholarship student at the International Ensemble Modern Academy. His new commissions have been performed by Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern, and other prominent performing groups. Stefanovich's new collection of piano exercises is a solo work consisting of 15 pieces composed between 2008 and 2016. The complex rhythms, tempo changes, and multi-layered sound worlds are unique. Although all the pieces are less than five minutes long, each piece has a completely different character. Although it is called \"Practice Pieces,\" this collection, written in all styles and forms with elements of contemporary jazz, requires a very high level of artistry. The last piece in the collection, \"Tamara,\" is dedicated to Stefanovich. Stefanovich, who studied under Nikolau, gives his best performance. The coupling is \"Frames,\" a four-hand work by Nicolau, performed with Pierre-Laurent Emard, and dedicated to both of them.The multi-layered intertwined music is a solitary world that could be described as geometric. The two virtuosos sound out the polyphonic world depicted by Nikolau.
