Of particular note is “Echoes of St. Mark,” which won second place (with no first-place award) at the 30th International Composition Competition in Corciano, Italy. This marked his fourth award at this competition, following an honorable mention for “Symphony No. 2: Big Apple” in 1995, first place for “Casanova” in 1999, and second place for “Symphony No. 3: Planet Earth” in 2006. “Echoes of St. Mark” was composed as a tribute to the Italian composer and organist Giovanni Gabrieli; it makes extensive use of the compositional technique of divided chorus popularized by Gabrieli, and the piece concludes with a brilliant and majestic hymn. The title track, “Fellini,” is a tribute to Federico Fellini, the Italian film director and screenwriter known as the “Magician of Cinema.” Featuring Hans de Jong as soloist, the piece draws inspiration from the circus and the clown—two of Fellini’s favorite themes. The album also includes a total of five works, such as Dvořák’s “American Suite” and Nielsen’s “Symphony No. 3, ‘The Expansive Symphony.’” Conducted by Johan de Mey himself, this is a highly rewarding album.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Amstel Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53595681128737,"sku":"8714441015890","price":3790.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/8714441015890.jpg?v=1790482267","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/8714441015890","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
