Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 \"Romantic\" by the master Tennstedt, recorded by BBC at the Royal Festival Hall in December 1989 (probably 14th)! The score used by Tennstedt is the Haas edition, and his famous recording with the Berlin Philharmonic [1981] is a classic, and his live performances with the Boston SO in 1982 and the London Philharmonic in 1984 are also well known. Tennstedt, the former principal conductor of the London Philharmonic at the time, conducted the orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall in 1989, and the BBC recorded the performance for broadcast. Tennstedt's interpretation of Bruckner's monumental and profoundly supreme symphony is a masterpiece. This is a white-hot, passionate performance befitting a masterpiece of the late Romantic period. The Financial Times (December 1989) commented on the concert: \"Tennstedt is now one of the greatest masters of his time. In this concert, he once again proved his mastery by making music that was extremely uplifting and captivating to the audience. In the moments of great climax, the London Philharmonic achieved a wonderfully magnificent performance, especially in the brass. The terrifying power of this performance is overwhelming.
