A collection of Charpentier's works, including recent live recordings! Released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Le Concert des Nation, founded by Savard and Montserrat Figueras in 1989. To celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2014, the ensemble's first recording, Charpentier's Canticum for the Virgin Mary, will be re-released on SACD HYBRID! Also included on SACD HYBRID is a live video (PAL) of a concert at the Royal Chapel in Versailles in October 2004, as well as a recording of a concert at Cardona Church on May 7, 2013. The year 2014 marks the 310th anniversary of Charpentier's death. This is a substantial set that allows you to enjoy the beautiful sound of Charpentier's music, realizing that the French Charpentier, like Purcell in England, was in the period of conversion from melody to tonal music, and used writing techniques such as the effective use of chromatic scales and dissonance that produce effects unique to tonal music. Comes with a gorgeous book. This product is only available in PAL format; there is no NTSC release.
