In the latest release of the “GlossaSCBSeries,” a collaborative project between Glossa and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, the “Viennese-style double bass”—used in Vienna during the Classical period—takes center stage. At the dawn of the Viennese Classical period, there were several outstanding double bassists in Vienna and Bratislava, and the most important solo works for this instrument were composed during this time. Mastering this unique instrument—which features frets on all five strings—is Canadian double bassist David Sinclair, who serves as a lecturer in historical double bass at the SCB and is one of the world’s few experts on the Viennese-style double bass.
