Following his acclaimed recording “Mozart’s Clarinet Concertos (GCDC81107)”—which garnered attention for its use of a reconstructed basset horn—this new concerto recording with the 18th Century Orchestra follows the release in July 2020 of “Weber \u0026amp; Kronmer: Clarinet Quintets (PGCD920610\/GCD920610), released in July 2020, and now features two clarinet concertos by Weber.\n\nComposed in quick succession in 1811, these two clarinet concertos—like Weber’s other clarinet works—were written for the renowned clarinetist of the time, Heinrich Bärmann. They were premiered under Weber’s baton with Bärmann as soloist, and the pair went on to tour throughout Europe. In this recording, just as in the recording of the “Clarinet Quintet Collection,” replicas of the Griessling \u0026amp; Schlott instruments believed to have been used by Beermann are employed, and the 18th Century Orchestra’s superb performance faithfully recreates Beermann’s clarinet sound.\n\nConducting the 18th Century Orchestra—which has continued its vigorous activities by welcoming various guest conductors even after the passing of Frans Brüggen—is the renowned Belgian baroque orchestra “Les Agrémans,” who also serves as clarinetist alongside Hoprich in the 18th Century Orchestra—an ideal lineup led by the renowned Belgian virtuoso Guy Van Waes, who is well-versed in both clarinet and conducting.
