A collection of violin works by Krzysztof Meyer, one of Poland's leading contemporary composers, to celebrate his 80th birthday. This is a performance by Korya Lessing, who has worked tirelessly on Meyer's works. The unaccompanied sonata No. 2 is dedicated to him and is a world premiere recording. Also included is the Geigen-Kramchen, written for a young violinist in the tradition of Bartók's Microcosmos. Each piece shows outstanding violin writing, and the music is irresistibly avant-garde, making full use of the energy of the instruments. Krzysztof Meyer is a composer who studied with Penderecki and Boulanger. He taught for many years as a professor of composition at the Cologne University of Music and has played an important role as a bridge between Polish and German cultural exchange. His music has a great implication and narrative quality in its avant-garde musical language, and even his seemingly intense expressions have a depth that makes us feel something special and fascinatingly meaningful.
