This is a SACD hybrid disc from the PENTATONE OXINGALE Series, a joint project between the PENTATONE label and Canada's Oxingale Records label. The disc features Mozart's chamber music by the brilliant Matt Haimowitz, including six preludes and fugues by Bach, K.404a, and the epic Divertimento in E-flat major, K.563. The six preludes and fugues were composed by Mozart in the spring of 1782, during his infatuation with Baroque music, and were composed by the composer's friend and fellow music lover Sviten. It is thought that they were arranged for a concert at the baron's residence after he met Baron Svieten, a music lover, but in recent years, it is widely believed that they are forgeries. However, this newly composed work, imitating works by J.S. Bach and W.F. Bach, is one of the most attractive string trios with beautiful melodies. The Divertimento in E-flat major is one of the finest chamber works of his later years, along with the Clarinet Quintet.The composition consists of six movements: the first movement in sonata form, the second movement in a kind of sublime style, the fourth movement in a very well-developed variation technique, and the sixth movement in rondo form including the development of the theme. It is a work that simply amazes. The cellist Matt Haimovitz, born in Israel in 1970, recorded the work for Deutsche Grammophon in 1988 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Levine. He made a sensational recording debut with Deutsche Grammophon in 1988, recording with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Levine.
