This exhilarating performance, brimming with the fresh and dynamic sensibility characteristic of Seiji Ozawa, has lost none of its luster over time and can certainly be counted among the finest recordings of this work.\n\nComposed by Berlioz—the founder of French Romantic music—between 1845 and 1846, the dramatic oratorio *The Damnation of Faust* is a monumental work combining orchestra with solo voices and chorus, based on the masterpiece *Faust* by the great German writer Goethe.\n\nThis remastering was once again handled by Polyhymnia International of the Netherlands—a company of which the Pentatone label is proud—and can be considered a first-rate remastering.
