The Schumann performance is bold and vigorous—typical of Klemperer, who eschewed unnecessary tempo accelerations—with a majestic grandeur that seems to weigh down the orchestra. You can also fully appreciate the beauty of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s woodwind section.
