A Baroque composer and organist, his style greatly influenced J. S. Bach and Handel, and he is considered one of the most important composers of the 17th century. He wrote many pieces for organ, harpsichord, and other keyboard instruments, as well as chamber music and vocal music.\n\nThe cantata \"Limb of Jesus\" is a series of seven cantatas in the style of \"concerto-aria,\" ranging from \"Of the Feet: Behold, I bring you good news\" from the Biblical book of Nahum to \"Of the Face: Pour out the light of your head upon your servant\" from Psalm 31. It was composed in 1680 and dedicated to Gustaf Duben (c.1628-1690), the chief music master at the Swedish court.
