The LSO is celebrating the launch of the LSO Live label with \"Elijah,\" one of the three most popular oratorio masterpieces in music history.\n\n\n\nElijah\" was first performed at Birmingham Town Hall in 1846. The performance was a great success, but Mendelssohn made alterations and completed the final version the following year. It was so well received that it was called \"The Elijah\" along with \"The Messiah\" (Handel).\n\n\n\nPappano brought out the dramatic character of Mendelssohn's oratorio on a grand scale, and the overture that follows the opening section is like an operatic overture. The opening overture is like an operatic overture, foreshadowing the drama to come. The numerous arias are performed by singers who Pappano approved of, and it is as if we are listening to a masterpiece of arias from an opera of the highest quality. One is reminded that these are not musical characters, which Mendelssohn struggled to achieve when composing for English texts, but dramas by people who actually live in the biblical world.
