The eighth installment in the Concertgebouw Orchestra's ambitious Horizon series, the prestigious Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra's series featuring music of the same period. This time it includes the world premieres of two works commissioned by the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The first is a trombone concerto by Scottish composer James MacMillan. The Concertgebouw Orchestra's principal trombonist, Jorgen van Rijn, asked MacMillan to write a concerto for trombone, and MacMillan, who was originally enamored with the instrument, did not refuse.
