Her arrival creates a bad atmosphere, and she is put on trial for exorcism, but the real devil is summoned, and Renata is sentenced to be burned. Director Andrea Brate sees the surrealistic story as realistic schizophrenia and moves the setting from a convent to a modern psychiatric ward. The atmosphere is somber, but the music is bursting with Prokofievian verses. Dissonance, unusual rhythms, and deafening acoustics are indicative of avant-garde art.Lithuanian soprano Ausrine Stundite, born in 1976, gives an insane performance, and Bo Skoufus, who accompanies her, changes the concept of opera in a prisoner-like way.
