The festival takes place in Macerata, a town that still preserves the character of a medieval city, and its main venue is the open-air Sferisterio, a neo-classical arena built in the 1820s for the ancient game of pallone col bracciale. Since its refurbishment in 1989, the 550-seat Teatro Lauro Rossi has also been used for opera. The production is by the great Pier Luigi Pizzi, who also served as the festival's artistic director; it is a traditional staging of real pictorial beauty, like an Italian painting, to which Pizzi adds his characteristic sensuality. The title role is taken by the popular Italian bass Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, for whom Don Giovanni is a signature part: he has been widely acclaimed in it at the Staatsoper Berlin, the Vienna State Opera and the 2014 Salzburg Festival, and was warmly received on the Royal Opera's 2015 tour to Japan. Leporello is sung by Andrea Concetti, a bass born in Grottammare in the Marche region, an established basso buffo who sings Leporello regularly. Donna Elvira is the Italian soprano Carmela Remigio, a familiar figure in Japan and a Mozartian of the first rank. Donna Anna is Myrtò Papatanasiu, the Greek soprano whose signature role is Violetta in Verdi's La traviata and who is equally highly regarded in Mozart and Rossini; she sang the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro at the New National Theatre Tokyo in October 2010 and also took part in Teodor Currentzis's recording of Don Giovanni. Zerlina is Manuela Bisceglie, a soprano born in Matera in southern Italy, whose mischievous charm Pizzi brings out to the full. Don Ottavio is the American tenor Marlin Miller, an accomplished singer with a wide repertoire whose individuality tells here too. The conductor is the outstanding Riccardo Frizza, who combines a tight, propulsive sense of speed with an Italianate beauty of sound and a genuine Mozartian sensibility.\nKing International\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"C Major","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53525291532577,"sku":"814337014940","price":7690.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/814337014940.jpg?v=1789730692","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/814337014940","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
