A shocking production! Subtitled in Japanese, the Swedish Nordlands Opera and the Spanish stage direction group La Fura dels Baus have teamed up to present this video of Richard Strauss' \"Elektra\" in 2014. La Fra dels Baus began as a street theater troupe in 1979 and directed the opening ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Since then, the group has been engaged in a variety of expressive activities in theater, opera, and film. They specialize in spectacular, visually appealing performances that make full use of computer-generated imagery and are centered in the outdoors. In this \"Elektra,\" they have developed another powerful stage performance, using a huge crane to manipulate a human being chained to it.Held at a business park in Umeå, Sweden, the largest stage, measuring 200 x 40 meters, was set up in a square formerly owned by the Swedish army and now used as a parking lot. Large quantities of artificial blood were released onto the stage, creating a graphic and vivid impression. We witness Elektra's brooding revenge drama with a unique sense of color and a whirlwind of vengeful emotions. Elektra is played by Swedish soprano Ingela Brinberg. Her strong voice and dramatic singing are powerful enough. Ingrid Tobiasson, also from Sweden, sang her mother Clytemnestra with an overwhelming presence and humanistic singing. British conductor Ramon Gamba's conducting also vividly demonstrated the chaotic music filled with madness and sensuality of \"Elektra.
