The original work is based on Goethe's \"Faust,\" and includes pieces such as the \"Rakoczy March\" and \"Dance of the Fairies,\" which are performed independently. This video is a live performance of Georg Solti, who was music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for more than 20 years, from 1969 to 1991, when he led the orchestra and chorus in an appearance at the Proms two years before he retired. This live performance was a hit for its powerful performance that reproduced Berlioz's flamboyant orchestration to the utmost limit, along with the great choruses by Dame and Otter.
