Chisam studied composition with Donald Francis Tovey at the University of Edinburgh. He has made his mark on history as the Scottish premiere of Rachmaninoff's \"Piano Concerto No. 3\" and Bartok's \"Piano Concerto No. 1\" and as the British premiere of Bartok's \"Bluebeard's Castle.\" Delphian has released his first recording since the world premiere recording of the opera \"Simoon\" (DCD34139). The Chisam album features 36 songs (27 of which are world premiere recordings), many of which were inspired by the Gaelic folk songs of his native Scotland. These works, with their simple yet sophisticated and familiar charm, are presented by three brilliant star singers and Ian Burnside, a master of 20th century song accompaniment, who brings out the unique character of each work. The lyrics also make full use of the Scottish language, and all three singers and their accompanists are from Scotland, making this a truly exceptional lineup.
