He is a composer, jazz pianist, conductor, and music writer who taught himself composition and has developed a unique style that is both sophisticated and boldly eclectic. Raymond Yiu’s collection of orchestral works, released by Delphian, features three live recordings (all world premiere recordings, of course) performed by an all-star lineup of artists including Andrew Davis, Edward Gardner, David Robertson, Andrew Watts, and Roderick Williams. “The London Citizen Exceedingly Injured,” Raymond Yu’s first major orchestral work, was nominated for the British Composers’ Prize (now the Iverson Composition Prize) in 2013. “Symphony,” commissioned for the 2015 BBC Proms and premiered by Gardner at the Proms to great acclaim.
