Mozart was around 17 years old at the time, shortly after the new year had begun. Already possessing a wealth of experience in theatrical works, Mozart achieved great success with *Lucho Silla*, which is said to have run for 26 performances.\nThe performance featured on this album was, in fact, a co-production with the Salzburg Festival, featuring the exact same cast, orchestra, chorus, and staging (by Jürgen Frim) as the production staged there one month later. It was a co-production with the Teatro La Fenice. Naturally, the cast—led by Sacco in the title role—is outstanding, and singers active in the early music scene, such as Mathis, Bacelli, and Kanhemi, are particularly effective.\nAnd the main highlight is conductor Netopil. A young Czech conductor born in 1975, he rapidly rose to prominence with these productions of *Lucio Silla* in Venice and Salzburg. Since the Salzburg performance took place at the Felsenlichtschule, a semi-open-air theater, the sound recording conditions at the Teatro La Fenice are likely better. If you want to fully savor the music, I highly recommend this recording.
