The Bach-Gaillard, with his relaxed shoulders and full of natural charity, reverence for Bach, and joy in playing music, re-recorded the Bach Unaccompanied Suites for the first time in 11 years. Bach is full of the joy of playing the cello, without being tall. Each of the most beautiful sound patterns in the history of music that Bach strung together is carefully and meticulously spun. It is like a beautiful picture book, full of compassion and the lively energy of the dances, which will make your face light up as you turn the pages. When you close your eyes, you feel as if you are sitting deep and relaxed in a comfortable chair across from Gaillard in a wooden room, and she is playing just for you. ■Gaillard's own words (excerpted from the liner notes)I recorded this suite again because I was inspired, just as I was 11 years ago.Recording this suite was a big gamble, but I was fortunate to have a strong partner in this great adventure. I am fortunate to have a powerful partner in this great adventure. I am already happy enough to be able to play such a wonderful cello, but facing these suites by taking the time to build a relationship with the instrument has opened up a whole new vista for me, as much as it can. The person does not make the journey, but the journey forms the person. One does not travel to adorn oneself. The journey washes, rinses, and dries him of all that is superfluous.\" This is exactly the kind of journey that I went through in re-recording this suite.
