He has served as composer-in-residence with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. His style is neoclassical or neoromantic, in the vein of his teacher Howard Hanson, with romantic melodies and dramatic developments built on a solid style. The three concertos, which make full use of the orchestra's functions, are excellent works that are well worth listening to. The soloists are splendid, including Philadelphia principal flutist Jeffrey Koener, Michael Ludwig, who has recorded extensively for NAXOS, and Joseph Alessi, who is known as a virtuoso soloist and principal of the New York Philharmonic.
