Most of them were rarely performed, and several were completely unknown until recently. Under the supervision of musicologist Roger Parker, Opera Lara's artistic director and conductor Carlo Rizzi will play the piano, and Opera Lara will release a series of eight recital albums of complete solo songs. The project is a strong statement of the importance of Donizetti as a central figure in the 19th century song repertoire and of the Italian school of music in a field long dominated by German and French composers.\n\n\n\nThe first of these projects features tenor Lawrence Brownlee. Brownlee is the second most popular Rossini and Donizetti singing tenor after Juan Diego Florence. He has sung in opera houses all over the world with a superb voice that is so strong that it soars to very high notes without the slightest stress, and has been acclaimed as \"an international star in the bel canto opera repertoire\" (The New York Times) and \"one of the leading bel canto stars in the world\" (The Guardian).
