The early symphonic poem *Macbeth* depicts the protagonist of Shakespeare’s tragedy. Furthermore, the opera *Intermezzo* features a protagonist (nicknamed “Sturhi”) who leads a domestic life and is a projection of Strauss himself; this album includes four symphonic interludes from that work.\nGianandrea Noseda, who has served as Music Director of the Zurich Opera Orchestra since the 2021–2022 season, has conducted these Strauss works, including those requiring a large orchestra.
