Josef Lauber (1864-1952), a composer, pianist, and organist born in Luzwil in the canton of Lucerne, Switzerland, is often overlooked as a composer, although he is sometimes mentioned as Frank Martin's only teacher. He studied at the Zurich Conservatory with Friedrich Hager, a friend of Brahms, and in Munich and Paris with Rheinberger and Massenet, and left behind over 200 works in almost every genre. Conductor Kaspar Zehnder discovered Lauber's six symphonies in the music archives of the University Library of Lausanne, and this album features the world premiere recordings of the middle period, Nos. 4 and 5.\n\n\n\nIn these two symphonies, written after the First World War, Laubar preserves the traditional four-movement structure but weaves his own originality into the compositions, beautifully combining meticulous craftsmanship, rich emotional expression, and inner energy.No. 4 is characterized by its odd time signatures, exotic instrumentation (xylophones, tambourines, etc.), and rich melodic allusions, even incorporating a carillon melody that he heard while skiing in the Valais region of Switzerland. In the following No. 5, Lauber does not directly reflect the war or the vicissitudes of the times, but retains its melodic charm and unique sense of style. Lauber was truly a symphonist living between worlds and cultures. Acoustically, he was French, motivically German, and emotionally Swiss.\n\nTokyo M-Plus\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Schweizer Fonogramm","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51435797807393,"sku":"7629999179615","price":3190.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/7629999179615.jpg?v=1751292669","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/7629999179615","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
