On this disc, they took on Ernest Bloch's sonatas. Bloch, a composer who emphasized the Jewish nationalist position, was born in Geneva. After teaching at the Geneva Conservatory, he was invited to New York as a teacher in 1917 and became a citizen in 1924. Bloch's works are strongly influenced by Jewish liturgical music and Jewish folk music, and his representative works include \"Shelomo,\" a Hebrew rhapsody for cello and orchestra, and \"Bar Shem\" for violin and piano - three scenes from Hasidic life (especially the second piece, \"Nigun Both violin sonatas were written in the 1920s after his arrival in the U.S. and are impressive for their rich, exotic melodies.In No. 1, from the beginning of the violin part, the melody played only on the G line continues, and the succession of notes that folds in on itself creates a sense of tension that is seamless. Both piano and violin require a high level of technique, and once heard, the piece has a strong impact that does not leave the listener's ears. Bloch returned to Switzerland in 1930, but avoided World War II and came back to the United States in 1939. The piano sonata was written in 1936. It shows the turmoil and emotional conflicts of the war years, and as is typical of Bloch's later works, it has strong neoclassical tendencies. The duo of Nurit Stark and Cédric Pécha has released the violin sonatas of Busoni and Enesco, as well as Schumann.
