Although he was sometimes derided as “old-fashioned,” he remained unfazed by trends and steadfastly pursued his own musical vision. In February 2009, the Basel State Conservatory held a commemorative concert to honor his achievements, and this recording was released on CD. Of particular note is the *Spielmusik* for clarinet, bassoon, and double bass. Kaori Tanaka, a graduate of the Basel State Conservatory who won first prize in the clarinet division of the 78th Japan Music Competition in 2009, serves as the leader, supported by Diego Kenna, the former principal bassoonist of the Mahler Jugend. Double bassist Botond Koszák is a veteran who serves as principal with the Orchestre National de Lyon.
