This piece—which, according to the old numbering system, would be No. 7—is also unfinished, and all that remains of it are mostly single-melody sketches. Several people have attempted to orchestrate it, but the most famous version is that by Weingartner. The excellence of this arrangement by Weingartner—who was also known as a composer—has long been recognized, and it clearly demonstrates the deep respect he held for Schubert. The Violin Concerto, composed for Kreisler, is also a masterpiece brimming with a modern and brilliant sound.
