While CPO has released many of his works—including a box set of 28 symphonies—this is still not enough to grasp the full picture. This release features an enticing program: two cello concertos—which truly showcase his strengths—along with Symphony No. G521, which was not included in the box set, and an octet. This is a fascinating recording that allows listeners to fully savor Boccherini’s unique melodic lines. Given that he was himself a highly skilled cellist, his treatment of the cello in his cello concertos never ceases to amaze, no matter how many times one listens to them.
