Together with his brother, Johann Philipp Krieger, he served as organist to the Royal Court of Bayreuth, and later held positions as court Kapellmeister in Greiz and music director and organist in Zittau. Even Handel regarded him as the foremost organist and composer of his time.\nHe composed numerous religious works, organ pieces, and keyboard works, but many of them were lost due to war and other circumstances.\nAmong Johann Krieger’s surviving works, the six suites included here are particularly significant. These were composed in Nuremberg in 1697. While they emulate the free-spirited style known as “Style Brise” (the “broken style”) used by lute players of the time, they are magnificent works that showcase Johann Krieger’s ingenuity.\nThe performer is Latvian keyboardist Tatjana Volobojova.
