Now, after nearly 30 years, they’re back with *UNTILTHESUNEXPLODES*, their first full-length studio album since welcoming Jacob Nowell—the son of the late Bradley Nowell—as their frontman!\n\nSublime, a ska-punk\/mashup rock trio from Long Beach, California, was formed in 1988 by Eric Wilson, Bud Gow, and Bradley Nowell. In 1992, they released their first self-produced album, *40oz. TO FREEDOM*, on Skunk Records. Following heavy rotation on Southern California’s KROQ radio, they signed with Gasoline Alley Records, a subsidiary of MCA. On their 1994 album *ROBBIN’ THE HOOD*, they demonstrated an experimental ethos closer to cut-and-paste dub than the refined anger of the California punk revival. The album performed well on college radio and laid the groundwork for the massive success of their self-titled third album. However, on May 25, 1996, the band fell apart following the tragic death of Bradley Nowell. Despite this, Universal went ahead with the release of *SUBLIME* in July 1996. Buoyed by timeless hits like “What I Got,” “Santeria,” and “Wrong Way,” that self-titled album went 5x platinum and drove the band’s total album sales past 18 million copies, as certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Then, in late 2023, Bradley’s son, Jacob Nowell, took the stage alongside original members Bud Gow and Eric Wilson, leading to a full reunion and a critically acclaimed performance at Coachella in 2024, marking the dawn of a new era.
