After graduating, they studied abroad at the Hans Eisler School of Music in Berlin, where they continued their studies in chamber music under Professor Friedemann Weigle (a member of the Artemis Quartet). *A Body Made of Wood*, featuring works by five female composers active today, is an album created as a “snapshot” of the Malva Quartet’s decade-long creative journey.\n*The Mystery* by Karin Lénqvist, one of the leading contemporary Swedish female composers, and *My Desert, My Rose* by New York-based, Serbian-born composer Aleksandra Vrebalov were both written for the Kronos Quartet’s project “50 for the Future.” “Wooden Torso” by Uppsala-born Teboh Monaco-Tra was commissioned by the Malva Quartet. “Winding, Song of the Waves” by Swedish composer, improvisational musician, folk musician, and saxophonist Lou Kristenson is a shortened and revised version for string quartet of a work originally composed as a “lullaby” for violin, viola, and double bass, which she has shortened and revised for string quartet.
