The Helsinki Chamber Choir and Artistic Director Nils Schwekendijk participate in the concert series \"Kaija Saariaho 70\" celebrating Kaija Saariaho's 70th birthday. The album \"Reconnaissance\" (BIS SA-2662), based on works sung at the concert, was selected for the 2024 \"Grammy Award\" for Best Choral Performance.\n\n\n\nThe new album, titled \"Joy and Asymmetry,\" features a program of works in a variety of styles by Rautavaara and Kalevi-Aho, two of their mentors and students.\n\n\n\nRautavaara's \"First Lament\" was commissioned by the European Choral Association's \"European Cantate Festival\" and is a work that requires a high degree of technical skill, as it tests the deep resonance of the choir's lower voices. The first verse of Rainer Maria Rilke's serial poem \"Duino's Dirge\" is used as the text. Our Love\" is an arrangement for mixed chorus of four pieces from \"Wenn sich die Welt auftut (When the World Surrenders)\" (1996), a four-part collection for women's voices based on a German poem by Ingrid Scherbach-Kopra (1935-), with text by Lassi Nummi (1928-2012), except the first piece. Wenn sich die Welt auftut (When the World Surrenders)\" (1996), arranged for mixed chorus.\n\n\n\nAve Maria\" (Happiness, Mary, full of grace) is a mixed chorus version of one of Rautavaara's most popular choral works of the 1950s, a beautiful 1957 twelve-tone male chorus piece. The Book of Life is a collection of pieces composed in 1972 for the University of Helsinki Male Chorus. Six selections from the original collection, on poems by Rilke, Paul Éluard, Arthur Rimbaud, Emilie Dickinson, James Broughton, and Walt Whitman, and two compositions on poems by Charles Baudelaire and Stefan Gheorghe from the 1978 male choral work \"Four Serenades\" have been added. Two additional pieces composed on poems by Charles Baudelaire and Stefan Gheorghe were added. Arranged for mixed chorus.\n\n\n\nKalevi Aho's \"Three Poems of Maulana Rumi\" is based on a lyric poem (ghazal) by the Persian mystic poet Maulana Rumi (Jalal al-Din Rumi) (1207-1273), translated into Finnish by Jaakko Hamene-Anttila (1963-2023). Composed in 1996, \"Joy and Asymmetry\" was commissioned by the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation. From the repertoire of \"contemporary Finnish literature\" favored by Kalevi Aho, the seven poems were taken from the collection of the same name by Mirkka Lekola (1931-2014), one of the central poets of post-World War II Finnish modernism, and composed in close connection with the music.\n\n\n\n(King International)\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Bis Records","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":50238283743521,"sku":"7318599926926","price":3245.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/7318599926926.jpg?v=1724916141","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/7318599926926","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
